Legacy – Gun Control

This is what keeps me awake at night, reflecting on the world we’re leaving our children. It’s January 27th and we’ve had 847 gun deaths THIS YEAR (http://www.gunviolencearchive.org/) So begins the “Legacy” series. At this point, I have several other concepts for paintings – women’s healthcare, fossil fuels/pollution, legal drug abuse, transgender rights and species extinction. A far cry from what I usually paint, but something I feel strongly about.

After this piece had been painted and entered and accepted into a national art show in Washington DC, the father of the child decided he didn’t want the piece shown. Despite the fact that the father had been present during the entire photoshoot and had even given input on possible weapons for the child to hold, he claimed that he’d never given his consent and sent a cease-and-desist order to myself and the gallery in DC. For that reason, and others, this piece will go under some changes in the near future before it is shown again.
